Essential Requirements
• Honours degree in maths or related discipline.
• PGCE or equivalent post-16 teaching qualification.
• Ability to teach A level maths including the pure, statistics and mechanics components.
• Enthusiasm for maths and an ability to convey that enthusiasm.
• Excellent classroom skills with the ability to employ a range of teaching strategies which engage and support students in the promotion of high-quality learning.
• Contribute positively to the work of the department through collaborative planning and by sharing teaching ideas and resources.
• Excellent communication and team working skills.
• Evaluative approach to own teaching and willingness to try new activities.
• An openness to feedback and self-reflection in wider professional duties.
• Competence in assessing student progress and giving effective feedback using AfL to ensure good progression.
• Skilled at using assessment data and prior learning to inform planning.
• Good ICT skills including being able to use interactive whiteboards, graphing and spreadsheet software in a classroom setting and use.
• The interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for being a personal tutor to post-16 age group.
• Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in practice.
• Commitment to safeguarding the interests and needs of young people.
• Commitment to supporting college wide activities beyond the classroom.
• Enthusiasm to contribute to super/extra curricula programmes.
Desirable
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Teams to set work and communicate with students and other staff.
• Ability to teach or willingness to learn A level Further Maths and engage with students considering taking maths at top universities.
• An interest in developing the resource base of the department and the application of new technologies in teaching.
