Head of Physics

£49,297 – £60,515 inclusive per annum
 
The College invites applications from well-qualified and enthusiastic A level Physics teachers. This is a full-time, permanent post. It will provide an exciting opportunity for an exceptional teacher to lead this popular and successful department.
 
Salaries will be on the sixth form college teachers’ salary scale between Point 5 and Point 9 which is currently £41,174 and £51,714 depending on experience, plus £3,382 London Weighting, per annum. In addition, a responsibility allowance for head of department duties is payable in the range of £4,741 (RA7) - £5,419 (RA8) per annum, depending on experience. Further additional responsibility opportunities may arise that the successful candidate will be able to apply for.
 
Closing date for applications is Monday 23 February by 4pm. Interviews will be taking place on Thursday 5 March 2026.

Essential Requirements 
 
1. Honours degree in relevant discipline.
2. PGCE or equivalent post-16 teaching qualification.
3. Recent successful experience of teaching A level Physics.
4. Enthusiasm for Physics and the ability to convey that enthusiasm in A level teaching.
5. Excellent classroom skills and the ability to employ a range of teaching strategies which engage and support students in the promotion of high-quality learning.
6. Excitement about and experience of developing or adopting new learning resources for a team.
7. Leadership skills and the ability and drive to unite a team around a vision for the department.
8. Evaluative approach to own teaching and willingness to try new activities.
9. Successful use of intervention strategies to improve students’ progress.
10. Skilled in using assessment data and prior learning to inform planning and monitor progress across the department.
11. Good behaviour management skills.
12. Excellent communication and team working skills.
13. The interpersonal skills and enthusiasm required to undertake the duties of a personal tutor to post-16 age group.
14. Commitment to supporting the wider college vision.
15. Enthusiasm to contribute to super/extra curricula programmes and visits.
16. Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in practice.
17. Commitment to safeguarding the interests and needs of young people.
 
Desirable Requirements
 
1. Recent successful experience in leading and/or supporting other staff, or in taking responsibility for areas of work or professional development.
2. An excellent knowledge of using Microsoft Teams and other relevant applications to improve learning, excite students and communicate effectively.
