Essential Requirements
• Honours degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
• PGCE or equivalent post-16 teaching qualification.
• Ability to teach A Level Chemistry.
• Enthusiasm for Chemistry and an ability to convey that enthusiasm to students.
• Excellent classroom skills with the ability to employ a range of teaching strategies which engage and support students in the promotion of high-quality learning.
• Confident practical chemist with strong laboratory skills and a clear understanding of the CPAC element of the A level as well as the wider health and safety requirements in a teaching environment.
• Competence in assessing student progress and giving effective feedback to ensure good progression.
• Skilled in using assessment data and prior learning to inform planning and differentiation.
• Good behaviour management and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
• An openness to feedback and self-reflection in wider professional duties, with a willingness to develop and improve teaching practice.
• Contribute positively to the work of the department through collaborative planning and by sharing teaching ideas and resources.
• Excellent communication and team working skills.
• Good ICT skills, including the use of interactive technologies to support teaching and learning.
• The interpersonal skills and enthusiasm required to undertake the role of a personal tutor to a post-16 age group.
• Commitment to supporting college-wide activities beyond the classroom.
• Enthusiasm to contribute to super-curricular and extra-curricular programmes.
• Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in practice.
• Commitment to safeguarding the interests and needs of young people.
Desirable
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Teams to set work and communicate with students and staff.
• An interest in developing the resource base of the department and the application of new technologies in teaching.
