Marketing Manager

£49,708 – £52,047 inclusive per annum
 
Woodhouse College is academic in focus and appeals to students who are ambitious and considering higher education as a likely destination. Large numbers of students progress to Oxbridge, medical schools and leading research-intensive universities. All students take A levels and all are 16-19 so it combines the community of a large school sixth form with the scale, diversity and liberal, tolerant ethos often associated with colleges.
 
Woodhouse is an exciting college so there is a lot to convey. We are seeking someone who will lead on all aspects of marketing under the initial direction of the Principal. The post will involve creating engaging content, leading on digital communications, and working with others to design in person events. The postholder will also be responsible for branding, PR and continuing to build our strong reputation.
 
The salary will be in the range of Point 28 – 30 on the sixth form college support staff salary spine, dependent upon experience and qualifications. This is currently £46,326 – £48,665 plus £3,382 London Weighting, depending on experience, with pay awards pending.

The postholder will be line managed by the Principal during their first year. This job description gives an overview of key aspects of the role and should be read in conjunction with the outline of the role.
 
Strategic overview of Woodhouse College marketing function.
 
1. Develop a clear marketing, communications and PR strategy in liaison with the Principal and work with the wider team to:
 
• Communicate our mission and vision clearly
• Exemplify our work through widely accessed news items and ‘stories’ that exemplify our work
• Attract diverse student and staff applicants who will thrive as part of the College
• Communicate the distinctiveness and enjoyment of being part of the College to foster both belonging and inclusiveness
• Secure the College’s strong reputation in north London and in sixth form education nationally
• Balance consistency of messaging within the Frontier Learning Trust with communicating the distinctiveness of the College
 
Lead on digital communications
 
2. Oversee all aspects of the Woodhouse College website.
 
• Update and periodically review the website so that it reflects and promotes the work of the College
• Liaise with the website developer and host as necessary
• Develop and write stories about the College and coordinate contributions from others ensuring a steady stream of news items and a consistent look and feel
• Create copy, graphics, photos etc. to engage the audience and illustrate pages effectively
• Contribute to a consistent voice and feel across the Trust’s sites and for alumni, vacancies and lettings aspects of the College’s site
 
3. Develop use of social media channels, leading on key messaging.
 
• Ensure a steady stream of relevant, professional content on most popular social media channels
• Monitor all social media inquiries and comments and respond accordingly
• Use paid social media advertising to spread important news of successes and open days in the local community
• Create bespoke, paid advertising campaigns when required
• Assist HR and Finance staff in advertising vacancies and lettings when needed
 
Lead on marketing products
 
4. Lead on content, design and procurement of any marketing products by creating:
 
• Advertising posters, banners and leaflets
• Branded stationery
• Application acceptance packs / booklets
• Ad hoc magazines or newsletters
• Branded giveaway merchandise
• Print advertising where required
 
In-person marketing events
 
5. Open days and other events
 
• Assist in event planning for open day, offer-holder day and other outreach activities
• Advertise events through the website, social media, printed materials and targeted email
• Ensure any other materials are delivered and available on time
• Liaise with Principal to assist with any messaging/speech requirements
 
Lead on creative content
 
6. Use creative and technical skills to produce dynamic, immersive, interactive, shareable content across all platforms, utilising all media to reinforce key messaging and encourage sharing and engagement.
 
Photography – shoot professional images
Adobe Photoshop (or other) – enhance, edit and layer designed images
Writing – write scripts / copy for advertising and publicity, virtual open day videos, social media posts. Produce longer form news stories for the website
Adobe InDesign (or other) – create professional looking print-ready documents incorporating photography, design, copy, typesetting etc
Video – use professional 4k camera, drone, lighting and sound equipment to produce long and short form video
Apple Final Cut Pro (or other) – creatively edit video using pro-tools, layered sound and soundtracks, titling, effects etc
 
Lead the PR function
 
7. In liaison with the Principal, act as a first port of call for all media enquiries:
 
• Proactively gather information about our successes from around the site 
• Produce press releases and news articles and ensuring relevant Woodhouse events achieve appropriate media coverage
 
8. Maintain a database of media contacts and develop relationships with journalists in key publications in order to secure comment, features and articles relating to the College.
 
Lead on brand development
 
9. Ensure that all marketing materials have a consistent house style.
 
10. Support departments in use of the Woodhouse brand through brand guidance and ensure staff are aware of and implement any style guidelines in publications and external communications.
 
Other
 
11. To undertake training and development relevant to the post.
 
12. To undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team.
Essential Requirements
 
Experience
 
• Proven experience in a hands-on marketing, communications or creative role
• Experience of planning and delivering marketing campaigns across multiple channels including content creation for websites and social media
• Experience of working collaboratively
Technical & Professional Skills
• Strong understanding of marketing strategy, branding, PR and audience engagement
• Photography and video content creation skills
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Strong digital marketing knowledge, including:
o Social media platforms and content best practice
o Meta Ads Manager / paid social advertising
o Website Content Management Systems (CMS)
o Google Analytics, PPC and SEO principles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
• Excellent written English and communication skills along with the ability to produce clear, engaging and accurate copy
• High level of attention to detail, including proofreading
 
Planning, Organisation & Delivery
 
• Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

• Experience of marketing in the education sector
• Experience with paid digital campaigns (Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok)
• Knowledge of SEO and web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics)
• Video production and editing skills (e.g. Premiere Pro or similar)
