Interim Project Manager

Frontier Learning Trust is a small Academy Trust comprising of Woodhouse College and Imperial College London Maths School (ICLMS). Woodhouse College is a popular and oversubscribed 16-19 academy of around 1500 full-time students, all on A level courses, on a vibrant campus in north London. The College is proud of its strong community spirit and friendly supportive atmosphere. Our success rates and A*-B pass rates at A level regularly put us in the top five colleges in England. ICLMS opened on the same site in September 2023. This school is a specialist maths school, it currently has 126 students and is based in temporary classrooms. Once the new building is complete the school will have 200 students.
 
Interim Project Manager
 
Temporary, full-time: 36 hours per week, all-year round

Starting as soon as possible, up to 18 months or 2 years
 
Salary: daily rate or fixed monthly income (to be negotiated)
 
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and committed individual to join as a temporary project manager on a full-time basis to support the delivery of four major projects across the Trust. This role will ensure that the projects are delivered to the highest possible quality whilst also being on time, within budget, and to optimal standards of compliance and safety. In day-to-day practice, there will be significant liaison work between the contractors and Trust staff to ensure that problems are overcome, and the projects meet our needs. We are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills and enthusiasm who can relate well with colleagues and contractors. A flexible and approachable manner is essential. The core working hours can be discussed but will need to be appropriate in terms of being on site every day to oversee the contractors and will be between from Monday to Friday.
 
The salary will be competitive and negotiated as a daily rate or as a fixed term monthly salary, to be discussed.

Role Purpose
 
Frontier Learning Trust is seeking an experienced Premises Project Manager to support the delivery of four major building projects across the Trust. This role will ensure that the projects are delivered to the highest possible quality whilst also being on time, within budget, and to optimal standards of compliance and safety.
 
In day-to-day practice, there will be significant liaison work between the contractors and Trust staff to ensure that problems are overcome, and the projects meet our needs.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Project Management:
 
A) Lead and coordinate three significant capital projects:
 
1. Development of a Student Study Centre at Woodhouse College, budget of £3m for phase 1.
2. CIF Project 1: Replacement of electrical infrastructure and fire alarm systems across the Woodhouse College site, budget of £2.8m
3. CIF Project 2: Replacement of heating systems and installation of ventilation across two Woodhouse College buildings, budget of £2.7m
 
B) 4. Monitor and liaise with the team running the construction of a new Imperial Maths School building, where the DfE is building a new school for the Trust on a ‘greenfield’ part of the campus. The budget is more than £10m and given the nature of the school is likely to be a particularly prestigious project.
Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with the Trust Estates Manager, CFO, college leadership, contractors, and external consultants to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.
Ensure that Trust Staff, lettings and Trust IT team are consulted as projects progress and plan with these staff any changes in access.
 
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all projects meet statutory requirements, health and safety standards, building regulations and the Trust’s safeguarding procedures.
 
Budget & Timeline Control: Monitor project budgets, manage risks, input mitigation strategies and maintain delivery schedules.
 
Reporting: Provide regular progress updates to the CFO and Trust leadership team.
Essential:
 
• Proven track record in managing multiple large-scale building projects running concurrently within education or similar sectors.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, compliance, and health & safety regulations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing situations and priorities.

Desirable:
 
• Experience with CIF-funded projects.
• Familiarity with educational estate management.
• Familiarity of dealing with projects covering upgrades to electrical infrastructure, installing new fire alarm systems, replacement of heating systems and installing new ventilation systems.
